lewin’s mark

I was honored to be asked to provide a scroll on the occasion of Master Lewin de Partone’s elevation to the Order of the Mark. Design, leatherwork, painting, and wordsmithing all done by me, guided by the Gotland Picture Stone GFB1061 at the Gotland Museum, with text informed by that found on Norse runestones. A fuller writeup is still to come.

Abran and Anya had these runes carved for
Lewin de Partone,
bow-master and battlesteward,
to praise his aim and might.

They elevate his mastery with a Mark,
and raise his personal standard
where on sky lies a silver stag,
and on green lies a silver bear,
their toothy horizon silver-rent,
all looking left.
