geoffrey’s golden dolphin

I was delighted to create a scroll for Master Geoffrey d’Ayr of Montalban’s (Bish’s) Golden Dolphin award. Calligraphy, illumination, and 16th century verse by me. More complete writeup to come.

Beyond the salted shore,
Throughout this seafoam land,
Where pilgrims sail on masse
The gate to pass
And coffers pour
Their contents on the sand,

As steady as the tide,
A bishop’s effort flows.
Sets right a listing field,
So even keeled,
A helpful guide,
He serves, uplifts, and knows.

So now in gleaming word,
Abran and Anya here
Bestow a golden fin,
A pod of kin,
On may the third
When sixty makes our year.
